Forgiveness

by Rev. Rick Pursley

LEARN HIM-LOVE HIM-LIVE HIM
“Therefore he is able to save completely those who come to God through him, because he always lives to intercede for them.” Hebrews 7:25

There are so many in our world today who live in a sense of hopelessness and despair.  They believe that they are so far gone that they cannot be saved.  This is one of the great lies that Satan has so successfully weaved throughout our society.

There is nobody that is so far gone that they cannot be saved.  That may be hard for some to accept, but it is true.  My mind goes to the woman at the well.  She goes out in the heat of the day to draw water to avoid the judgmental stares of her neighbors.  She had tried to find happiness in many failed relationships.  Jesus traveled to Samaria and met with this woman at the well for one purpose, to forgive her. A person who society deemed unforgivable.

Scripture tells us that Jesus “had” to go through Samaria.  Jewish people usually avoided traveling through Samaria at all cost, even if it meant adding miles to their journey because of doctrinal differences.  Yet Jesus knew the exact time this particular woman would be at the well drawing water and was there waiting on her.  His tone was not confrontational or judgmental.  Instead it was one of forgiveness.  Jesus traveled out of His way to save one.

He will do the same for each of us, if we are willing to accept His forgiveness. There is nobody so far gone that can’t be forgiven.  Jesus knows everything about us.  He knows our hearts, he is aware of our sins, and yet He still loves us.  He commands us to do the same.  We have heard the phrase “Hate the sin, love the sinner.”  This is exactly what Jesus did.  He did not condone this woman’s sinful past.  Yet He was ready to forgive her.  He went out of His way to forgive her.  If only the world today was more willing to forgive instead of pointing fingers and condemning one another, then we would live happier and more peaceful lives.
