Make room for Jesus
by Rev. Rick Pursley
Tuesday, December 5, 2023And they will know us by our love.”
“And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped him in swaddling clothes, and laid him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn” (Luke 2:7)
The innkeeper in the story of the birth of Christ becomes the subject topic of many preachers. Yet I have wondered, do we give the innkeeper a fair shake?
What we may forget is that the innkeeper did not realize that he didn’t offer a space in his home for the Son of God to be
born. Yet he offered shelter and privacy for Mary to give birth. Although it was a stable, it was out of the elements and it was private. This was more than others offered.
In our world today, many who claim to know Jesus, don’t have room for Him in their lives. The reasons that people give today are far less legitimate than the reason the innkeeper gave.
We should always have room for Jesus In our lives. As we prepare to celebrate Christmas, let us not loose focus on the reason for the season. Parties are nice, giving and receiving gifts give us a warm feeling inside. Yet we can allow ourselves to get so busy, we forget to celebrate the birth of our Savior.
